LENT 2012
Wednesday is Ash Wednesday. This day begins our Forty
Days of Prayer, Fasting and Good Works in preparation for
celebrating the Passion, Death and Resurrection of the
Lord. The Sacred Triduum, as it is called, beginning with
Holy Thursday and concluding with the Easter Celebration
offers us an opportunity to reflect upon the mystery of our
redemption, the mystery of our God’s love for us inspite of
our faults and failings, our sinfulness.
As a Community of Faith we are invited to participate in
specially planned prayer activities as well as good works
which enable individuals and families to enter into the
Spirit of the Season of Lent.
To be sure, the days of Lent will pass quickly; one week
will follow another and before long the announcement of
Holy Week will come before us. To gain the benefits of
this Season you must plan today. Please reflect upon the
Parish program presented to you today. Don’t try to do
everything. Choose wisely and realistically. In six weeks,
you will stand at the beginning of Holy Week. Will you be
renewed in Spirit to follow Jesus on the road to Calvary?
Will you enter into the tomb? Will you joyfully arise, new
born and renewed at the Easter Celebration?
I urge you to prayerfully reflect as individuals and as a
family. Choose a Lenten program and walk with our
Savior. Yes, there will be distractions and temptations to
do the usual thing during these six weeks. However, an
invitation is being extended to you today, “Come Follow
Me.” Don’t turn away this request by Jesus. Make this
Lent the best ever.
