Council By-Laws

ARTICLE I

Section I - Name


The name of this body is the Pastoral Advisory Council of St. Aloysius R. C. Church, New Canaan, Connecticut, hereinafter referred to as the Council.

Section II - Authority

This Council is created at the direction of the Bishop in accordance with the documents of the Second Vatican Council, and the Code of Canon Law. It possesses a consultative role only and is governed by norms determined by the diocesan bishop. (Canon 536). It is presided over by the Pastor.

Section III - Purpose

The Council is born out of the need for co-responsible leadership. It is an important locus for the effective participation of clergy and laity in the total mission of the parish as called for in Vatican II. The Council will advise and assist the pastor; and help maintain liaison between the pastor and the parish and the officially constituted organizations of the parish.

Section IV - Duration

When the office of Pastor is vacant the Council ceases to exist.

When a new Pastor or Administrator assumes office the Council may (or may not) be continued or reconstituted using the pre-existing membership and/or bylaws.
