Council By-Laws

ARTICLE II

Section I - Membership

The membership will consist of all parish clergy, the lay members of the parish corporation, the business manager, the principal of St. Aloysius Regional School, the director of Religious Education, the youth minister, the Grand Regent of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas - Court St. Aloysius, the Grand Knight of the Father Stapleton Council of the Knights of Columbus, the president of Our Lady's Guild, nine adult members elected by ballot from the parish, one elected youth representative, and a representative from any future parish organization that petitions to be included in the Council and is accepted by the pastor.

Section II - Officers

The Council shall have the following officers chosen from the elected membership:

A) Chairperson
B) Vice-Chairperson
C) Secretary

Section III - Duties of the Chairperson

The chairperson shall preside at all meetings of the Council and shall be its Chief Executive Officer, having general supervision of the operation of the Council, subject to the direction of the pastor. The chairperson shall appoint, with the approval of the pastor, members of all standing and temporary committees. The chairperson shall be an ex-officio member of all such standing and temporary committees except the nominating committee when one exists, and is empowered to cast a deciding vote in the event a committee's deliberations result in a tie vote. The chairperson shall perform such other duties as provided for or as incident to the constitution and by-laws.

Section IV - Duties of the Vice-Chairperson

The vice-chairperson shall perform all the duties of the chairperson in the absence of the chairperson, and other duties as may be prescribed from time to time by the pastor. The vice-chairperson shall perform such other duties as provided for or as incident to the constitution and by-laws.

Section V - Duties of the Secretary

The secretary shall keep accurate records of all meetings of the Council. A copy of such records shall be kept on file and open to reasonable inspection. The secretary shall call meetings in accordance with the provisions of Article II, Section VI or Section VII of the by-laws. The secretary shall prepare ballots for the election of officers and shall perform such other duties as provided for or as incident to the constitution and by-laws.

Section VI - Regular Meetings

Regular meetings of the Council shall be held monthly except for July, August and December and unless waived by a majority vote. The default meeting day and time is the third Wednesday of the month at 8:00 in the evening. A quorum shall consist of a simple majority of the members of the Council. The annual meeting shall be the regular June meeting.
