Meeting Minutes

January 11, 2006

Meeting called to order at 7:35 p.m.

In Attendance:

Msgr. Scheyd opened with a prayer.

Minutes of November 16, 2005 were approved.

Business Manager: Deacon John reported that Phase 1 of the Master Plan is underway. There has been no change since November.
Reports:
CCD:
Carol Pinard reported that the year opened with three workshops that were very well attended. The second graders made their First Confessions in early December. There will be an Enrollment Ceremony this week. The Grade Level Liturgies are going well. $3,400 was raised to send to Haiti. The 7 th Grade Liturgy will be at the 8:30 Mass next Sunday.
Our Lady's Guild:
Sue Lione reported for Pat Brier that Fr. Les would lead a discussion on the book, The World’s First Love by Bishop Sheen on Friday, January 13th. It will be a brown bag lunch in Stapleton Hall. Letters have been sent out for the luncheon on Feb. 10 th at the Roger Sherman.
Catholic Daugthers:
Margaret Sandstrom reported that nine bags of clothes were collected for the Midnight Run. The Star Party was held on December 1 st. The Birthright Shower will be held in March. There will be the annual sale of Irish Soda Bread after the Masses on March 11 th & 12 th.
Youth Ministry:
The Super Bowl of Caring will take place after the Masses the first weekend in February. Teens will be at the doors with bowls to collect donations. On March 3rd the Teens will lead the Living Stations of the Cross. In December, they decorated the Christmas tree in the Rectory and made cookies for New Covenant House.
Music Ministry:
Thom Marino reported that November & December were very busy. The Thanksgiving Liturgy was well received. About 400 people attended the Advent Concert. The Christmas Eve Liturgy included about 50 children in the Choir. Rehearsals begin again.
Emmaus:
Larry Tomaselli reported that Emmaus LI would be held March 10, 11 & 12. The Adult Emmaus will be held this year, they are current looking for a Rector and Rectora.
Friends of St. Aloysius :
Katie Tricomi reported for the Friends of St. Aloysius. There will be a Dinner Dance on March 11 th at Woodway Country Club with a Live and Silent Auction. Leo Karl will be the Honoree. All organizations were asked to announce the event at their meetings. Invitations will be mailed to the parishioners. Volunteers are needed to sell tickets after the Masses. Auction items are needed. Organizations of the parish were invited to donate an auction item. The price will be $100 per person, which includes dinner and an open bar all evening. There will be a Golf Outing in May. The name of the organization has been changed to Friends of St. Aloysius; the ‘School’ has been removed from the name as the organization donates to all religious education and the Youth Ministry efforts of the parish. Sign up sheets were distributed to each organization.
Knights of Columbus:
All the men of the parish will be invited to a Men’s Night at Silvermine Tavern on February 2 nd. The cost will be $20-25 per person. The purpose of the evening is to encourage fellowship. The Knights will be taking down the Crèche on the corner of South Avenue on weekend of January 20 th. On January 16 th, they will be painting the basement of Villa Maria Guadalupe for the Sisters of Life. Volunteers are needed. It has not been decided whether to have a St. Patrick’s Day Dance and there will not be a pancake breakfast this spring.
Unfinished Business::
Leo Karl noted that it appears there are more commuters making use of the church parking lot. Deacon John noted that the workers from the King Casey building had been given permission to park in the church lot while their parking lot is being refinished. Leo suggested that cars with permission should be given stickers. It was noted that monitoring that would require extra personnel time.
New Business:
Parish Calendar : The Parish Secretary maintains a calendar. All groups are asked to give event dates to the Secretary. It is planned that it will be published in the bulletin weekly.
St. Aloysius Feast Day Celebration: After discussion, June 10 th was chosen.
Pastor's Report :
Msgr. Scheyd reported that the woman who had been living in her car in the parking lot has left. Catholic Charities Social Worker has contacted her to see what services can be offered. The plans for the property are at a standstill. St. Aloysius is ready to swap the land. The town has approved 6 units at 1400 sq. ft. each with a height to conform to the zone. The Demolition Permit was issued on July 23 rd. The new parking lot, lighting, signage and control of parking still need to be addressed. Phase 1 of the fund raising activity has begun. The members of the Parish Council are asked to be the voice to their groups. Phase 1 consists of the purchase of the condos across the street and the renovation of Stapleton Hall. The old house will be kept temporarily and the 1 st floor will be used for CCD classrooms. It is estimated that about $5 million will be needed for Phase 1. June 3 rd is the ending date for Phase 1 fund raising. The Christmas Masses were well attended. Concern was expressed about the overcrowding at the 5 PM Mass on Christmas Eve. They will have to decide what to do, if anything. Bishop Lori is planning a revamping of the Catholic Center with emphasis on Evangelization, Youth Ministry, Religious Education and Family Life. Input will be requested from Parish Councils at a listening session in the spring. Questions will be given to Parish Councils and it will be an agenda item for our meeting.

The next meeting will be held on February 15 th at 7:30 P.M.
