First Communion Announcement

Dear First Communion Parents:

I know that you and your child have been looking forward to First Communion Day on May 30, but it will come as no surprise to you that we must postpone that day.  It is becoming clearer each day that even if some restrictions will be lifted after May 20, the restrictions on the numbers permitted for gatherings will likely remain for at least several weeks.

Yesterday I met with our bishop and several pastors in our diocese, and we believe that First Communion’s will have to be spread out over several weeks and we might be able to begin having those Masses in the summer with some continuing into the Fall.  None of this is definite, so rather than propose a series of dates now that may have to be changed, I will get back to you in May with some options.  Rest assured we will be as flexible as possible so that we can accommodate your family and guests to the best of our abilities. I am eager to welcome everyone back to church so that we may gather around the table of the Lord and receive Him in the Eucharist, but you can surely appreciate that we must be safe and sensible.

I pray for all of you each day, and I am grateful for your faithfulness and the tremendous efforts you are making to keep your family safe, and strong in faith in these challenging days.  We often call the family the “Domestic Church” because it is at home that our faith is first taught and daily nurtured.  It has been our privilege to partner with you to raise your children in our Catholic Faith, and we will continue to do so.  Resources are available through our Religious Education office and are directed your way from time to time.  “FORMED” is a free resource for individuals and families that offers a variety of content; you can link to it from our parish website If you haven’t been participating in our live-streamed Masses, you can find them on the Saint Aloysius, New Canaan Facebook page.  Sunday Mass is live-streamed on Saturday at 5:30 p.m.  The Mass is then made available on the parish website for viewing at any time.

Thanks for your patience. I will be back in touch with you next month.

Yours in the Risen Lord,

Fr. Rob
